Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the bow and the quiver, whether one may pray with them or not. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray with the bow, and take off the quiver."

Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Uyaynah bin Hisn raided the milch she-camels of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and drove them off. Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa' al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I went out with my bow and arrows, for I used to shoot game, until when I reached Thaniyyat al-Wada' I saw that they were driving them away. So I ran and climbed Mount Sal', then I called out: Ya sabahah (Alas, the morning raid)! My cry reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and it was announced among the people: Danger! Danger! I went out shooting arrows at them, saying: Take this, and I am the son of al-Akwa'. Only a little while passed before I saw the horsemen of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) coming out through the trees. Eight horsemen caught up with them, and the first to reach them was Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah bin Rib'i (may Allah be pleased with him). He speared a man of Banu Fazarah called Mas'adah, then took off his own cloak and threw it over him, then went on with the horsemen in pursuit of the enemy. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by there while the people were alarmed and were saying: Abu Qatadah has been killed. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is not Abu Qatadah; rather, it is the one killed by Abu Qatadah. Leave him and his belongings." Then he said: "Press on in pursuit of the people." So they pressed on and recovered as many of the milch she-camels as they could recover, and the rest they (the raiders) took away. Muhammad bin Talhah says: And in the hadith it is: "The names of those who went out in search of the she-camels were: Ukkashah bin Mihsan; al-Miqdad bin Amr, who is also called Ibn al-Aswad and was an ally of Banu Zuhrah; Muhriz bin Nadlah al-Asadi, an ally of Banu Abd Shams - it is said that none of the people was martyred except him; and from the Ansar: Sa'd bin Zayd al-Ashhali, who was the commander of the people, Abbad bin Bishr al-Ashhali, Zuhayr bin Rafi' al-Harithi, Abu Qatadah bin Rib'i al-Salami, and Mu'adh bin Ma'is al-Zuraqi; and Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi was also one of those five people."
Abu Ayyash al-Zuraqi narrates: I came on a horse of mine, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Ayyash, if only you had given this horse to someone who is a better rider than you." I said: I am the best rider among the Arabs. The narrator says: The horse had not run even fifty cubits before it threw me and broke my leg, and I said: Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth. Then I mounted my cousin Mu'adh bin Ma'is al-Zuraqi on my horse.
