It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A whip from Paradise is better than the world and everything in it, and setting out in the morning or in the evening in the path of Allah is better than the world and everything in it."

By the same chain, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him): I was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when his front teeth (ruba'iyah) were broken, his blessed face was wounded, and the helmet was smashed on his head. I know who was washing the blood from his face, who was bringing water to him, and what was placed on his wound until the bleeding stopped. The daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), was washing the blood from his face, and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was bringing water to her in a shield. When she had washed the blood from her father's face, she burned a mat, and when it had become ash, she took some of that ash and placed it on his face until the bleeding stopped. Then (Sahl, may Allah be pleased with him) said: "On that day the wrath of Allah became severe against the people who wounded the blessed face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent for a while, then said: "O Allah, forgive my people, for they do not know."
