حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْمَعْمَرِيُّ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ أَبِي عَاصِمٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنِ ابْنٍ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْأَعْمَى، عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ رَآهُ يُصَلِّي بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ، فَضَرَبَهُ بِالدِّرَّةِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي كَمَا هُوَ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ: «وَاللهِ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَا أَدَعُهَا بَعْدَ إِذْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّيَهَا»
Al-Sa'ib bin Yazid related that Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saw Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) praying after Asr, so he struck him with his whip while he carried on praying as he was. When he finished, he said: "By Allah, O Commander of the Believers! I will never abandon it, since I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) offer this prayer."
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْأَعْمَى، عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ: «لَا أَدَعُهُمَا بَعْدَ مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّيهِمَا»
Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the two rak'ahs after Asr: "I will not abandon them, since I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) offer them."
