حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ الْمَعْنِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ، قَالَ: «كَانَ أَبُو رِفَاعَةَ يُسَخِّنُ الْمَاءَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أَحْسِنُوا الْوُضُوءَ مِنْ هَذَا، فَسَأُحْسِنُ مِنْ هَذَا فَيَتَوَضَّأُ، بِالْمَاءِ الْبَارِدِ»
Humayd bin Hilal narrates: "Abu Rifa'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to heat water for his companions, then say: Perform your ablution well with this, and I will perform my ablution well with this (other water). Then he himself would perform ablution with cold water."
حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ الْعَبَّادَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو ظُفُرَ عَبْدُ السَّلَامِ بْنُ مُطَهَّرٍ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ صِلَةُ بْنُ أَشْيَمٍ: «أُصِيبَ أَبُو رِفَاعَةَ، وَكُنَّا فِي غَزَاةٍ فَرَأَيْتُ كَأَنِّي أَرَى أَبَا رِفَاعَةَ عَلَى نَاقَةٍ سَرِيعَةٍ، وَأَنَا عَلَى جَمَلٍ قَطُوفٍ، وَأَنَا عَلَى أَثَرِهِ فَيُعَرِّجُها، حَتَّى أَقُولَ الْآنَ أُسْمِعُهُ الصَّوْتَ، ثُمَّ يُسَرِّحُها فَتَنْطَلِقُ، وَأَتْبَعُهُ، فَأُوِّلَتْ رُؤْيَاي أَنَّهُ طَرِيقُ أَبِي رِفَاعَةَ آخُذُهُ، وَأَنَا أَكَدُّ الْعَمَلَ بَعْدَهُ كَدًّا»
Silah bin Ashyam narrates: "Abu Rifa'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred while we were on a military expedition. Then I saw in a dream as though I were seeing Abu Rifa'ah on a swift she-camel while I was on a slow camel, following behind him. He would turn her aside until I would say: Now I will make him hear my voice; then he would let her go and she would speed off, and I would keep following him. I interpreted my dream to mean that this is the path of Abu Rifa'ah which I take, and that after him I strive hard in good deeds."
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ، ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو رِفَاعَةَ الْعَدَوِيُّ: " انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَجُلٌ غَرِيبٌ جَاءَ يَسْأَلُ عَنْ دِينِهِ، لَا يَدْرِي مَا دِينُهُ؟ قَالَ: فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَتَرَكَ خُطْبَتَهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَى بِكُرْسِيٍّ خِلْتُ قَوَائِمَهُ حَدِيدًا، فَصَعِدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَجَعَلَ يُعَلِّمُنِي مِمَّا عَلَّمَهُ اللهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَى خُطْبَتَهُ فَأَتَمَّهَا "
Sayyiduna Abu Rifa'ah al-Adawi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon, and I said: "O Messenger of Allah, a stranger has come who wants to ask about his religion; he does not know what his religion is." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came over, leaving his sermon. Then a chair was brought whose legs I thought were of iron, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat up on it and began teaching me some of what Allah had taught him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he resumed his sermon and completed it.
