حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ، ثنا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ خُوَارٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ فَقَالَ: أَخْبِرْنَا مَتَى كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوتِرُ؟ قَالَ: إِذَا بَقِيَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ نَحْوٌ مِمَّا مَضَى مِنْهُ إِلَى صَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ، فَسَأَلُوهُ عَنْ قِرَاءَتَهِ، فَقَالَ: كَانَ يُسْمِعُ أَهْلَ الدَّارِ
Alqamah said: A man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Tell us, when did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) use to pray witr? He said: When as much of the night remained as had passed of it since the Maghrib prayer. They asked him about his (peace and blessings be upon him) recitation, and he said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to let the people of the house hear it.
