Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 9649 — A man among us died and left behind

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: مَاتَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا، وَتَرَكَ أُمَّ وَلَدٍ لَهُ فَأَرَادَ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ أَنْ يَبِيعَهَا فِي دَيْنِهِ، فَأَتَيْنَا ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ، فَوَجَدْنَاهُ يُصَلِّي فَانْتَظَرْنَا حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ، فَذَكَرْنَا ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: «إِنْ كُنْتُمْ لَا بُدَّ فَاعِلِينَ فَاجْعَلُوهَا فِي نَصِيبِ وَلَدِهَا»
Zayd bin Wahb (may Allah have mercy on him) said: A man among us died and left behind his umm walad (a slave woman who had borne him a child), and al-Walid bin Uqbah wanted to sell her to pay his debt. We came to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and found him praying, so we waited until he finished his prayer, then mentioned this to him. He said: "If you must do so, then count her in the share of her child."
