حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، ثنا زَائِدَةُ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ: قَالَ أَبُو عَطِيَّةَ: ذَكَرُوهَا عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، فَقَالَ: «أَجَلُهَا أَنْ تَضَعَ حَمْلَهَا» ، فَقَالَ الْقَوْمُ: حَتَّى أَرْبَعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرٍ؟ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ مَضَتْ أَرْبَعَةُ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرٌ وَلَمْ تَضَعْ حَمْلَهَا؟ فَقَالُوا: حَتَّى تَضَعَ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: فَتَجْعَلُونَ عَلَيْهَا التَّغْلِيظَ، وَلَا تَجْعَلُونَ لَهَا الرُّخْصَةَ، إِنْ نَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الْقُصْرَى لَبَعْدَ الطُّولَى: {وَأُولَاتُ الْأَحْمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ} [الطلاق: ٤] إِذَا وَضَعَتْ حَمْلَهَا فَقَدِ انْقَضَتِ الْعِدَّةُ "
Abu Muhammad narrated that Abu Atiyyah said: They mentioned this issue before Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: "The term of this pregnant widow is until she delivers her burden." The people said: Even up to four months and ten days (she must wait)? Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: What do you think if four months and ten days pass and she has not delivered? They said: Then she will wait until she gives birth. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: So you impose the harsher ruling on her, but you do not give her the concession. Indeed, the verse of the shorter (surah) was revealed after the longer one: "And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they deliver their burden" [Surah al-Talaq: 4]. When she delivers her burden, her waiting period is complete.
