It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was with Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) when a man and his wife came. He said: I divorced her, then took her back. The woman said: What happened on your part has not stopped me from relating the whole matter as it truly was. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Tell me. She said: He divorced me, then left me until, when I was at the end of the third menstrual period and my bleeding had stopped, I had set out my (water for the) ritual bath, closed my door and taken off my clothes, when he knocked at the door and said: I have taken you back, I have taken you back. So I left my bath and put on my clothes. Thereupon Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: O Ibn Umm Abd! What do you say about this? I said: "In my view he (the husband) has more right to her until the prayer becomes lawful for her." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "What an excellent opinion you have given; that is my view too."
