Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 9556 — People came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin

Mina' said: People came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) in the time of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Give us our stipends. He said: "I have no stipend for you; your stipend is only from your fay' (spoils gained without fighting) and your jizyah, and charity (sadaqah) is for those entitled to it." When they kept coming back to him, he brought the keys (of the treasury) to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), threw them down (before him), and said: "I am not a treasurer."
