Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 951 — I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

Sayyiduna Abu Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was asleep, or revelation was coming down to him, and suddenly there was a snake in a corner of the house. I disliked killing it and waking him (peace and blessings be upon him), so I lay down between him (peace and blessings be upon him) and the snake, so that if anything happened it would happen to me rather than to him. Then he woke up reciting this verse: "Your ally is none but Allah and His Messenger and those who have believed" [Surah al-Ma'idah: 55], then he said: "Al-hamdu lillah (All praise is for Allah)." Then he saw me at his side and asked: "Why are you lying here?" I said: Because of this snake. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Get up and kill it." So I killed it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) praised Allah, then he took my hand and said: "O Abu Rafi'! After me there will be a people who will fight Ali. It is a right upon Allah that they be fought against: whoever cannot strive against them with his hand, then with his tongue, and whoever cannot do so with his tongue, then with his heart. Beyond that there is nothing."
