حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ حَمَّادٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ لِسَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ: «تُوتِرُ بِوَاحِدَةٍ؟» فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ: أَوَلَيْسَ إِنَّمَا الْوِتْرُ وَاحِدَةٌ؟ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: «بَلَى، وَلَكِنْ ثَلَاثٌ أَفْضَلُ» ، فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ: فَإِنِّي لَا أَزِيدُ عَلَيْهَا، فَغَضِبَ عَبْدُ اللهِ، فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ: «أَتَغْضَبُ عَلَيَّ أَنْ أُوتِرَ بِرَكْعَةٍ، وَأَنْتَ تُوَرِّثُ ثَلَاثَ جَدَّاتٍ، أَفَلَا تُوَرِّثُ لِحَوَّاءَ امْرَأَةِ آدَمَ؟» أَخْبَرَنِيهِ يَحْيَى، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him): "Do you pray witr with one rak'ah?" Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Is witr not just one rak'ah? Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Certainly, but three rak'ahs are better." Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will not add to it. At this Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) became angry, so Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Are you angry with me because I pray witr with one rak'ah, while you give inheritance to three grandmothers? Why then do you not also give inheritance to Hawwa (Eve), the wife of Adam (peace be upon him)?"
