حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، وَالْأَسْوَدِ، أَنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ، دَخَلَ عَلَى عُتْبَةَ أَخِيهِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي عَلَى سِوَاكٍ يَرْفَعُهُ إِلَى وَجْهِهِ، فَأَخَذَهُ فَرَمَاهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «أَوْمِئْ إِيمَاءً، وَلْيَكُنْ رَكْعَتُكَ أَرْفَعَ مِنْ سَجْدَتِكَ»
Alqamah and al-Aswad (may Allah have mercy on them both) narrate that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) went in to his brother Utbah while he was praying on a tooth-stick (miswak) which he would raise to his face. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) took it and threw it away, then said: "Pray by gesturing, and let your bowing be higher than your prostration."
