Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 9164 — a cousin of his took an oath of ila'

It is narrated from Wabarah bin Abd al-Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) that a cousin of his took an oath of ila' (swearing to stay away) from his wife for ten days. Then he set out on a journey and returned when four months had passed, and then he had relations with his wife. Meanwhile he met a man who reminded him of his oath, so he came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). He questioned him and made him swear by Allah, saying: "I did not know." Then he sent for his wife and made her too swear by Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, saying: "I did not know." Then he ordered him to propose marriage to her anew for himself.
