حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ ذَرٍّ، حَدَّثَنِي مُجَاهِدٌ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ، بَعَثَ مَعَ رَجُلٍ بِبَدَنَةٍ، فَقَالَ: كَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ بِهَا؟ قَالَ:: «كُلْ أَنْتَ، وَأَصْحَابُكَ ثُلُثًا، وَابْعَثْ إِلَى أَعْرَابِنَا ثُلُثًا، وَتَصَدَّقْ بِثُلُثٍ»
Mujahid narrates that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a sacrificial animal (badanah) with a man. He asked: What shall I do with it? He said: "You and your companions eat one third, send one third to our Bedouin folk, and give one third in charity."
