حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ: صَلَّى عَبْدُ اللهِ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ، وَجَعَلَ رَجُلٌ يَنْظُرُ هَلْ غَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: " مَا تَنْظُرُونَ هَذَا؟ وَاللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مِيقَاتُ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةِ يَقُولُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: {أَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ لِدُلُوكِ الشَّمْسِ إِلَى غَسَقِ اللَّيْلِ} [الإسراء: ٧٨] فَهَذَا دُلُوكُ الشَّمْسِ، وَهَذَا غَسَقُ اللَّيْلِ "
Abd al-Rahman bin Yazid said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) led a prayer one day, and a man began looking to see whether the sun had set. So Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Why are you looking at this? By the One besides whom there is no god! This is the time of this prayer. Allah Almighty says: 'Establish the prayer from the decline of the sun until the darkness of the night' [Surah al-Isra: 78]. This is the decline of the sun, and this is the darkness of the night."
