Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 8873 — The souls of the martyrs are

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ، ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ أَبِي قَيْسٍ، عَنْ هُزَيْلِ بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ: «أَرْوَاحُ الشُّهَدَاءِ فِي أَجْوَافِ طَيْرٍ خُضْرٍ تَسْرَحُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ حَيْثُ شَاءَتْ، ثُمَّ تَأْوِي إِلَى قَنَادِيلَ مُعَلَّقَةٍ فِي الْعَرْشِ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The souls of the martyrs are in the bellies of green birds, which graze in Paradise wherever they wish, then return to lamps hanging from the Throne."
