Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Satan met one of the Companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and wrestled with him. The Muslim threw him down and gripped him with his thumb. Satan said: 'Let me go, and I will teach you a verse which, if any of us hears it, he turns and flees.' So he let him go, but Satan refused to teach him. Then he came back and wrestled with him again, and the Muslim again threw him down and gripped him with his thumb. He said: 'Tell me that verse,' but he again refused to teach him. When he came back the third time, he said: 'It is the verse in Surah al-Baqarah: "Allah, there is no god except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all" [Surah al-Baqarah: 255], to its end.'" Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, who was that man?" He said: "Who could he be other than Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him)?"
