Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 8782 — I loved Umar so much that I felt fear

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبَانَ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، عَنْ رَقَبَةَ بْنِ مَصْقَلَةَ الْعَبْدِيِّ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ، عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ: «لَقَدْ أَحْبَبْتُ عُمَرَ حَتَّى لَقَدْ خِفْتُ اللهَ، وَلَوْ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّ كَلْبًا يُحِبُّ عُمَرَ لَأَحْبَبْتُهُ، وَلَوَدِدْتُ أَنِّي كُنْتُ خَادِمًا لِعُمَرَ رَضِي اللهُ عَنْهُ، وَلَقَدْ وَجَدَ فَقْدَهُ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ حَتَّى الْعِضَاهَ، وَإِنَّ هِجْرَتَهُ كَانَتْ نَصْرًا، وَإِنَّ سُلْطَانَهُ كَانَ رَحْمَةً»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I loved Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) so much that I felt fear of Allah. If I came to know that even a dog loved Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), I would love it too, and I wished that I had been a servant of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Everything felt his loss, even the thorny trees. His emigration was a help, and his rule was a mercy."
