حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، أَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ، يَقُولُ: «لَا يَزَالُ النَّاسُ صَالِحِينَ مُتَمَاسِكِينَ مَا أَتَاهُمُ الْعِلْمُ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَمِنْ أَكَابِرِهِمْ، فَإِذَا أَتَاهُمْ مِنْ أَصَاغِرِهِمْ هَلَكُوا»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "People will continue to be righteous and steadfast as long as knowledge reaches them from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and from their elders; but when this knowledge began to reach them from their young ones, they were destroyed."
