حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ: «لَا يَصْلُحُ مِنَ الْكَذِبِ هَزْلٌ وَلَا جِدٌّ، وَلَا أَنْ يَعِدَ أَحَدُكُمْ صَبِيَّهُ شَيْئًا ثُمَّ لَا يُنْجِزَ لَهُ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Lying is not fitting, neither in jest nor in earnest, nor that one of you makes a promise to his child and then does not fulfil it."
