Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 84 — A man from the people of Iraq said

Abdullah bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: A man from the people of Iraq said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), when he was our governor, said: "Whoever is given a hundred dirhams in exchange for one dirham, let him take it." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I heard Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say on the pulpit: "Gold for gold is usury (riba), except like for like, with no increase; whatever is increased is usury." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: If you are in doubt, ask Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) about it. So the man went and asked Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), and he told him that he too had heard this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was told what Ibn Umar and Abu Sa'id had said, so Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) sought Allah's forgiveness and said: That was merely an opinion of my own that I had formed.
