حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ رَاهَوَيْهِ، أَنَا عَبْدُ السَّلَامِ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، ثنا يُونُسُ، وَآخَرُ سَمَّاهُ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ، أَنَّهُ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي حَمِدْتُكَ بِمَحَامِدَ، فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يُحْمَدَ» وَلَمْ يَسْتَنْشِدْهُ
Sayyiduna al-Aswad bin Sari' (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have praised you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, loves to be praised." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not ask him to recite it.
