Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 8172 — the people of Basrah launched a campaign

It is narrated from Tariq bin Shihab (may Allah be pleased with him) that the people of Basrah launched a campaign against Nahawand, and the people of Kufah reinforced them under the command of Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him), and they were victorious. Then the people of Basrah wanted not to give the people of Kufah a share (of the spoils). So a man from Banu Tamim, or Banu Utarid, said: "O you slave with the cut-off ear, do you want to be our partner in our spoils?" His ear had been cut off (in jihad) alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "You have reviled the better of my two ears." So they wrote to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he wrote in reply: "The spoils belong to whoever was present at the battle."
