حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ مُقْبِلٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ الْأَدَمِيُّ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَابَهْرَامَ الْأَيْذَجِيُّ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْعَطَّارُ، قَالَا: ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: «كُنَّا نَجْلِسُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَنَحْنُ غِلْمَانٌ، فَلَمْ أَرَ رَجُلًا كَانَ أَطْوَلَ صَمْتًا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَكَانَ إِذَا تَكَلَّمَ أَصْحَابُهُ، فَأَكْثَرُوا الْكَلَامَ، تَبَسَّمَ»
Abu Malik al-Ashja'i narrates from his father: "We used to sit with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while we were young boys, and I never saw a man who remained silent longer than the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And when his Companions talked and began to talk a great deal, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would smile."
