Abu Miskin narrates from Sayyiduna Talhah bin al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Stretch out your hand. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even if I command you to cut off ties with your mother?" He said: No. He said: Then I came back to him again and said: Stretch out your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On what?" I said: On Islam. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even if I command you to cut off ties with your mother?" I said: No. Then he came a third time. He had a mother, and he was among the most dutiful of people towards her. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O Talhah, there is no severing of the ties of kinship in our religion, but I wanted that there be no doubt in your religion." So he accepted Islam, and his Islam was excellent. Then he fell ill, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to visit him and found him unconscious. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not think Talhah will live beyond this night; if he regains consciousness, inform me." Talhah regained consciousness in the middle of the night and asked: Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) come to visit me? They said: Yes, and they told him what he (peace and blessings be upon him) had said. He said: Do not send for him at this hour, lest some creature sting him or some harm befall him; rather, when morning comes, convey my greetings of peace to him and tell him to pray for forgiveness for me. Then he passed away. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had prayed Fajr, he asked about him, and they informed him of his death and what he had said. At that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hand and said: "O Allah, meet him in such a state that he is smiling at You and You are smiling at him."
