Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 8095 — from Muhammad bin Sallam al-Jumahi

Abu Khalifah al-Fadl bin al-Hubab narrates from Muhammad bin Sallam al-Jumahi that Abu Ubaydah said: Dirar bin al-Azwar took charge of the killing of Malik bin Nuwayrah, and it was about this that Mutammim bin Nuwayrah composed these verses, in which he alludes to Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him):
[Al-Kamil metre]
"O Ibn al-Azwar, how excellent a slain man was the one you slew; when the spears clashed, the cowards would flee. And when you met him, how excellent he was inside his coat of mail, and how excellent a refuge he was for the guest who comes by night. He was generous even when intoxicated, sweet-natured, of lawful wealth, one who did not withhold without excuse. He did not hide indecency beneath his clothes; he was hard to lead, and chaste. You called him in the name of Allah and then killed him; had he called you with a pledge, he would not have betrayed you. How excellent a horseman he was on the day of the race, when he left the horsemen of the tribe of Fihr behind in the dust."
