Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when Sayyiduna Amr bin Zurarah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) caught up with us, wearing a suit of a lower garment and an upper wrap which he had let hang below his ankles. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began taking hold of the edge of his own garment and, humbling himself before Allah, saying: "O Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, and the son of Your female servant." Eventually Sayyiduna Amr bin Zurarah heard this, so he turned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! My shins are thin. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Amr bin Zurarah! Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has made all of His creation beautiful. O Amr bin Zurarah! Indeed, Allah does not love those who let their lower garments hang down." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his palm below his own knee and said: "O Amr bin Zurarah! This is the place of the lower garment." Then he lifted it, then placed it below that and said: "O Amr bin Zurarah! This is the place of the lower garment." Then he lifted it, then placed it below that and said: "O Amr bin Zurarah! This is the place of the lower garment."
