حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَرْبٍ الْمَوْصِلِيُّ، ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ الصَّعْبِ بْنِ جَثَّامَةَ قَالَ: مَرَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ وَأَنَا بِالْأَبْوَاءِ، فَأَهْدَيْتُ لَهُ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ، فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيَّ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى فِي وَجْهِي الْكَرَاهِيَةَ قَالَ: «إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِنَا رَدٌّ عَلَيْكَ، وَلَكِنَّا حُرُمٌ»
Sayyiduna Sa'b bin Jaththamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me while I was at al-Abwa', so I gave him (peace and blessings be upon him) a wild donkey as a gift. He (peace and blessings be upon him) returned it to me, and when he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw displeasure in my face, he said: "We did not return it to you out of disregard for you; rather, we are in the state of ihram."
