Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 7407 — I presented the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ السِّمْسَارُ، ثنا أَبُو النَّضْرِ، ثنا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ الصَّعْبِ بْنِ جَثَّامَةَ قَالَ: أَهْدَيْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ، وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ، فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيَّ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى الَّذِي فِي وَجْهِي قَالَ: «لَيْسَ بِنَا رَدٌّ عَلَيْكَ، وَلَكِنَّا حُرُمٌ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Sa'b bin Jaththamah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I presented the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with a wild donkey as a gift while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the state of ihram, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) returned it to me. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the state of my face, he said: "We have not returned it to you out of disregard for you; rather, we are in the state of ihram."
