Sayyiduna al-Sharid (may Allah be pleased with him) said that he was walking between Mina and the mountain pass, during the Hajj which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed. He said: Suddenly I heard the tread of a she-camel behind me. I turned and saw that it was the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) recognised me and said: "Sharid?" I said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Sharid! Shall I not let you ride behind me?" I said: Certainly, O Messenger of Allah! Then I said: I feel no tiredness or weakness, but I seek blessing in riding with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Sharid! Do you have any of the poetry of Umayyah bin Abi al-Salt?" I said: I am the one among people who knows it best by heart. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite." So I recited. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fell silent, I fell silent, and when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite more," I recited, until, when it had gone on a long time, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) then said: "The knowledge of Umayyah bin Abi al-Salt is with Allah."
