Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 7007 — the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ، ثنا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، عَنْ خُبَيْبِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَنَا: «إِذَا قَاتَلْتُمُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَاقْتُلُوا شُيُوخَهُمْ، فَإِنَّ أَلْيَنَهُمْ قُلُوبًا شَرْخُهُمْ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him); he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say to us: "When you fight the polytheists, kill their old men, for the softest-hearted among them are their young men."
