حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا دُحَيْمٌ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَسَّانَ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي خُبَيْبُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ: «إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الرَّجُلُ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ مَا كَثُرَ , أَوْ قَلَّ، وَيَجْعَلَهَا وِتْرًا»
Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to order us that a man should pray every night after the obligatory prayer, whether little or much, and make it odd (witr).
