حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْخُزَاعِيُّ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الْبَغَوِيُّ، ثنا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخٍ، ثنا أَبُو هِلَالٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، أَنَّ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، دَخَلَ عَلَى الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ الشِّعْرَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: «أَخِي، أَمَا عَلَّمَكَ اللهُ مَا هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنْ هَذَا؟» ، زَادَ مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ: فَقَالَ لَهُ الْبَرَاءُ: «أَتَخْشَى عَلَيَّ أَنْ أَمُوتَ عَلَى فِرَاشِي، وَاللهِ لَا يَكُونُ ذَلِكَ بَلَاءَ اللهِ إِيَّايَ، فَقَدْ قَتَلْتُ مِائَةً مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، مِنْهُمْ مَنْ تَفَرَّدْتُ بِقَتْلِهِ، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ شَارَكْتُ فِيهِ»
Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated that Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) went in to Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was reciting poetry, and said to him: My brother, has Allah not taught you something better for you than this? - Musa bin Isma'il added in his narration that al-Bara' said to him: "Do you fear for me that I will die on my bed? By Allah, Allah will not test me with that. I have killed a hundred of the polytheists; some of them I killed on my own, and in the killing of others I took part (with others)."
