حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، ثنا عَطَاءُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ سُرَاقَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ , أَنَعْمَلُ عَلَى مَا قَدْ جَفَّ بِهِ الْقَلَمُ , وَجَرَتْ بِهِ الْمَقَادِيرُ أَوْ لِأَمْرٍ مُسْتَقْبَلٍ؟ قَالَ: «يَا سُرَاقَةُ اعْمَلْ لِمَا جَفَّ بِهِ الْقَلَمُ , وَجَرَتْ بِهِ الْمَقَادِيرُ، فَإِنَّ كَلًّا مُيَسَّرٌ»
Sayyiduna Suraqah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Do we act upon that over which the Pen has dried and the decrees have been set, or upon a matter yet to come?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Suraqah! Act for that over which the Pen has dried and the decrees have been set, for each one is eased (towards what he was created for)."
