Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 6368 — I said: O Messenger of Allah! Tell me

حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قُلْ لِي فِي الْإِسْلَامِ قَوْلًا لَا أَسْأَلُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ؟ فَقَالَ: " قُلْ: آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ، ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ " قُلْتُ: مَا أَتَّقِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: «فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَى لِسَانِهِ»
Sayyiduna Sufyan bin Abdullah al-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me something about Islam such that I will not need to ask anyone else after you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: I believe in Allah, then remain steadfast." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! What should I guard against?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed to his tongue.
