Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I set out intending to go to al-Ghabah, and I heard a slave of Sayyiduna Abdur-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: The milch camels of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) have been seized. I asked: Who seized them? He said: Ghatafan and Fazarah. So I climbed the mountain pass and called out: Ya sabahah! Ya sabahah! (Alas, the morning raid!) Then I ran after them until I rescued the camels from them. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came with some of his Companions, and I said: O Messenger of Allah, these people are thirsty; we hurried to catch them before they could water their animals. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ibn al-Akwa', when you have gained the upper hand, be lenient. These people are Ghatafan; (now) they are being given hospitality."
