حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ العَبَّاسِ الْأَخْرَمُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدُّورِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، ثنا نَعَامَةُ الْعَدَوِيُّ، ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الضَّبِّيِّ قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ أَبِي كَانَ يَصِلُ الرَّحِمَ، وَيَقْرِي الضَّيْفَ، ويَفِي بِالذِّمَّةِ، قَالَ: «وَلَمْ يُدْرِكِ الْإِسْلَامَ؟» قَالَ: لَا، فَلَمَّا وَلَّيْتُ، قَالَ: «عَلَيَّ بِالشَّيْخِ» ، قَالَ: «يَكُونُ ذَلِكَ فِي عَقِبِكَ، فَلَنْ يَذِلُّوا أَبَدًا، وَلَنْ يَفْقُرُوا أَبَدًا»
Sayyiduna Salman bin Amir al-Dabbi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! My father used to maintain family ties, honour guests and keep his pledges. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "And he did not live to see Islam?" I said: No. When I turned to leave, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring the old man to me." Then he said: "This goodness will continue in your descendants; they will never be humiliated and they will never become destitute."
