حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ، ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَا: ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُلَيَّةَ قَالَا: ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: «مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَاهِرًا يَدَيْهِ قَطُّ فِي الدُّعَاءِ عَلَى مِنْبَرٍ، وَلَا غَيْرِهِ، وَلَكِنِّي رَأَيْتُهُ يَقُولُ هَكَذَا، وَأَشَارَ بِالسَّبَّابَةِ وَعَقَدَ الْوُسْطَى بِالْإِبْهَامِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: "I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raise both his hands in supplication, whether on the pulpit or anywhere else, but I saw him (peace and blessings be upon him) do like this," and he pointed with his index finger and joined his middle finger with his thumb.
