حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ، قَالَا: ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ كِنْدِيرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: حَجَجْتُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَإِذَا أَنَا بِرَجُلٍ يَطُوفُ بِالْبَيْتِ وَهُوَ يَرْجُزُ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ:

رَبِّ رُدَّ إِلَيَّ رَاكِبي مُحَمَّدًا
رُدَّهُ رَبِّ إِلَيَّ، وَاصْطَنِعْ عِنْدِي يَدًا
، قُلْتُ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالُوا: «هَذَا عَبْدُ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ، ذَهَبَتْ إِبِلٌ لَهُ فَأَرْسَلَ ابْنَهُ فِي طَلَبِهَا فَاحْتَبَسَ عَلَيْهِ، وَلَمْ يُرْسِلْهُ قَطُّ فِي حَاجَةٍ إِلَّا جَاءَ بِهَا» ، قَالَ: «فَمَا بَرِحْتُ أَنْ جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَجَاءَ بِالْإِبِلِ مَعَهُ» ، فَقَالَ: يَا بُنَيَّ، لَقَدْ حَزِنْتُ عَلَيْكَ حُزْنًا لَا يُفَارِقُنِي أَبَدًا

رَبِّ رُدَّ إِلَيَّ رَاكِبي مُحَمَّدًا
رُدَّهُ رَبِّ إِلَيَّ، وَاصْطَنِعْ عِنْدِي يَدًا
، قُلْتُ: مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالُوا: «هَذَا عَبْدُ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ، ذَهَبَتْ إِبِلٌ لَهُ فَأَرْسَلَ ابْنَهُ فِي طَلَبِهَا فَاحْتَبَسَ عَلَيْهِ، وَلَمْ يُرْسِلْهُ قَطُّ فِي حَاجَةٍ إِلَّا جَاءَ بِهَا» ، قَالَ: «فَمَا بَرِحْتُ أَنْ جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَجَاءَ بِالْإِبِلِ مَعَهُ» ، فَقَالَ: يَا بُنَيَّ، لَقَدْ حَزِنْتُ عَلَيْكَ حُزْنًا لَا يُفَارِقُنِي أَبَدًا
Kindir bin Sa'id narrates from his father; he said: I performed Hajj in the Days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah), and I saw a man circumambulating the House (the Ka'bah) and reciting rajaz verses. He was saying:

O my Lord, return to me my rider Muhammad;
O Lord, return him to me, and do me a favour.
I asked: "Who is this?" The people said: "This is Abd al-Muttalib bin Hashim. Some of his camels went missing, and he sent his son to search for them, but he was late in returning; yet whenever he sent him on any errand, he would always accomplish it and come back." The narrator said: "I stayed right there until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived, and he brought the camels with him." Then Abd al-Muttalib said: "O my son, I have felt such grief over your absence that it will never leave me."
