حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الْعَيْشِيُّ، ثنا سُوَيْدٌ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ: كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عَلَى بَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَتَذَاكَرُ، يَنْزِعُ هَذَا بِآيَةٍ ويَنْزِعُ هَذَا بِآيَةٍ، فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَأَنَّمَا تَفَقَّأَ فِي وَجْهِهِ حَبُّ الرُّمَّانِ، فَقَالَ: «يَا هَؤُلَاءِ أَبِهَذَا بُعِثْتُمْ؟ أَمْ بِهَذَا أُمِرْتُمْ؟ لَا تَرْجِعُوا بَعْدِي كُفَّارًا، يَضْرِبُ بَعْضُكُمْ رِقَابَ بَعْضٍ»
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were sitting at the door of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) talking among ourselves; people were arguing about verses of the Qur'an, this one pulling with one verse and that one with another verse. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us, and it was as if pomegranate seeds had burst on his face (that is, his blessed face had turned red). He said: "O people, is it for this that you were sent? Or is this what you were commanded? Do not turn back into disbelievers after me, striking one another's necks."
