حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، قَالَ: مُطِرْنَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ قَالَ: " هَلْ تَدْرُونَ مَاذَا قَالَ رَبُّكُمُ اللَّيْلَةَ؟ قَالَ: مَا أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَى عِبَادِي مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ إِلَّا أَصْبَحَ فَرِيقٌ مِنْهُمْ بِهَا كَافِرُونَ يَقُولُونَ: مُطِرْنَا بِنَوْءِ كَذَا وَكَذَا، وَأَمَّا مَنْ آمَنَ بِي وَحَمِدَنِي عَلَى سُقْيَايَ فَذَاكَ الَّذِي آمَنَ بِي وَكَفَرَ بِالْكَوْكَبِ، وَأَمَّا مَنْ قَالَ: مُطِرْنَا بِنَوْءِ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَذَاكَ الَّذِي آمَنَ بِالْكَوْكَبِ وَكَفَرَ بِي "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: We received rain in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When morning came, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what your Lord said last night? He said: 'I have not bestowed any blessing upon My servants except that a group of them became ungrateful for it; they say: We were given rain by the naw' of such-and-such a star. As for the one who believed in Me and praised Me for My rain, he has believed in Me and disbelieved in the star; and as for the one who said: We were given rain by the naw' of such-and-such a star, he has believed in the star and disbelieved in Me.'"
