Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 5181 — two men came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَنْبَرٍ الْبَصْرِيٌّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ شَاهِينٍ، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، أَنَّ رَجُلَيْنِ جَاءَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا: أَنْشُدُكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِلَّا قَضَيْتَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ هَذَا بِكِتَابِ اللهِ وَأْذَنْ لِي، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ ابْنِي كَانَ عَسِيفًا عَلَى هَذَا، وَإِنَّهُ زَنَى بِامْرَأَتِهِ، فَأُخْبِرْتُ أَنَّ عَلَى ابْنِي الرَّجْمَ، فَفَدَيْتُهُ بِمِئَةِ شَاةٍ وَوَلِيدَةٍ، فَسَأَلْتُ أَهْلَ الْعِلْمِ، فَأَخْبَرُونِي أَنَّ عَلَى ابْنِي جَلْدَ مِائَةٍ وَتَغْرِيبَ عَامٍ، وَأَنَّ الرَّجْمَ عَلَى امْرَأَةِ هَذَا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَأَقْضِيَنَّ بَيْنَكُمَا بِكِتَابِ اللهِ، أَمَا الْجَارِيَةُ وَالْغَنَمُ فَرَدٌّ عَلَيْكَ، وَعَلَى ابْنِكَ جَلْدُ مِائَةٍ وَتَغْرِيبُ عَامٍ» وَقَالَ: «اغْدُ يَا أُنَيْسُ عَلَى امْرَأَةِ هَذَا، فَإِنِ اعْتَرَفَتْ فَارْجُمْهَا» فَغَدَا إِلَيْهَا فَاعْتَرَفَتْ، فَرَجَمَهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that two men came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and one of them said: O Messenger of Allah! I adjure you to judge between me and this man according to the Book of Allah, and permit me (to speak). He said: My son was a hired worker for this man, and he committed adultery with his wife. I was told that stoning was due upon my son, so I ransomed him with a hundred sheep and a slave girl. Then I asked the people of knowledge, and they told me that upon my son are a hundred lashes and exile for a year, and that stoning is due upon this man's wife. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose hand is my soul! I shall judge between you two only according to the Book of Allah: the slave girl and the sheep are returned to you, and upon your son are a hundred lashes and exile for a year." And he said: "O Unays! Go in the morning to this man's wife; if she confesses, stone her." So he went to her in the morning, and she confessed, and he stoned her.
