Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 5063 — I heard Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam say: I

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَا: ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أُبَيِّ بْنِ سَلُولٍ، يَقُولُ: {لَا تُنْفِقُوا عَلَى مَنْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ حَتَّى يَنْفَضُّوا} [المنافقون: ٧] فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ وَأَتَاهُ ابْنُ أُبَيٍّ فَحَلَفَ لَهُ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَقُلْ، قَالَ: فَأَتَانِي أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَامُونِي، فَأَتَيْتُ مَنْزِلِي فَنِمْتُ، قَالَ: كَأَنَّهُ كَئِيبٌ، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ، - أَوْ قَالَ: فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ صَدَّقَكَ وَعَذَرَكَ» وَتَلَا هَاتَيْنِ الْآيَتَيْنِ {هُمُ الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لَا تُنْفِقُوا عَلَى مَنْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ} [المنافقون: ٧] حَتَّى خَتَمَ الْآيَتَيْنِ
Muhammad bin Ka'b al-Qurazi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) say: I heard Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul say: "Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they disperse" [Al-Munafiqun: 7]. So I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him. Ibn Ubayy also came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and swore that he had not said it. He said: The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and began to blame me, so I went to my house and slept, as if I were grieved. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for me, and I went to him (peace and blessings be upon him) - or he said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) - and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah has confirmed your truthfulness and has excused you." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited these two verses: "They are the ones who say: Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they disperse" [Al-Munafiqun: 7], until he completed both verses.
