Zayd al-Qassar narrates: We were with Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) in the mosque. He talked with us for a while, then said: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) taught me a surah, Zayd also taught me that same surah, and my father also taught it to me, but their recitations differ. So whose recitation should I adopt?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent, while Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was at his side. So Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Let every person recite as he has been taught; every way is good and beautiful."
