Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and I gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. Then he sent me to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and I gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. Then he sent me to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and I gave him the glad tidings of Paradise along with a trial that would befall him. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) took my hand and went with me until he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! What is this trial that will befall me? By Allah! I have never sung, nor have I indulged in false desires, and since I accepted Islam, or since I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I have never touched my private part with my right hand, and I never committed fornication, neither in the Jahiliyyah nor in Islam. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Allah will clothe you with a shirt; if the hypocrites want to force you to take it off, do not take it off."
