حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي الْوَلِيدِ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: دَخَلَ نَفَرٌ عَلَى زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، فَقَالُوا: حَدَّثَنَا بَعْضٌ حَدِيثَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: وَمَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ؟ كُنْتُ جَارَهُ، «فَكَانَ إِذَا نَزَلَ الْوَحْيُ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيَّ، فَكَتَبْتُ الْوَحْيَ، وَكَانَ إِذَا ذَكَرْنَا الْآخِرَةَ ذَكَرَهَا مَعَنَا، وَإِذَا ذَكَرْنَا الدُّنْيَا ذَكَرَهَا مَعَنَا، وَإِذَا ذَكَرْنَا الطَّعَامَ ذَكَرَهُ مَعَنَا» ، فَكُلُّ هَذَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ عَنْهُ
Kharijah bin Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that some people came to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Narrate to us some hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: What shall I narrate to you? I was his neighbour. When revelation came down, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would send for me and I would write down the revelation; when we spoke of the Hereafter, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would speak of it with us; when we spoke of this world, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would speak of it too; and when we spoke of food, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would speak of it too. All of this I am narrating to you about him.
