Sayyiduna Zayd bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: On the day of the Conquest of Makkah we went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) towards the graveyard. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down beside a grave, and we saw that he (peace and blessings be upon him) seemed to be speaking in a low, intimate voice. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, wiping the tears from his eyes. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the foremost of us, met him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: May my father and mother be ransomed for you! What has made you weep? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I asked my Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, for permission to visit my mother's grave, and she was my mother, and she had a right over me that I should seek forgiveness for her, but He forbade me." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured to us to sit, so we sat down. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I had forbidden you from visiting graves; now whoever wishes may visit. And I had forbidden you from keeping the meat of sacrificial animals for more than three days; now eat and store as much as you wish. And I had forbidden you from certain vessels and commanded you to use certain other vessels; now make nabidh in whatever vessel you wish, for a vessel neither makes anything lawful nor makes it unlawful; but avoid every intoxicant."
