Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Kill snakes; kill the one with two stripes and the short-tailed one, for these two cause miscarriage and take away eyesight."
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Then Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) or Zayd bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saw me while I was chasing a snake in order to kill it, and he forbade me. I said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has ordered that they be killed. He said: After that he (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade killing the snakes that live in houses. Al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: These are the snakes called 'awamir' (house-dwellers).
