حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْبَرَاءُ، ثنا الْمُعَافَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ أَعْيَنٍ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ، أَنَّهُ أَتَى قَوْمِهِ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ نَهَاكُمْ عَنْ أَمْرٍ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَافِقًا، وَلَكِنْ طَاعَةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيمَا شَقَّ عَلَيْكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ مَعْصِيَتِهِ فِيمَا رَفَقَ بِكُمْ، نَهَاكُمْ أَنْ تُعْطُوا أَرْضَكُمْ بِالثُّلُثِ وَالرُّبُعِ: «وَلَكِنْ لِيَزْرَعْهَا أَوْ لِيَزْرَعْهَا أَخَاهُ» فَقَالُوا: إِذَنْ يَكُونُ بُورًا، فَقَالَ: «ذَرُوهَا تَكُونُ بُورًا»
Imam Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to his people and said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden you from something that was a convenience for you, but obeying the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in what is hard on you is better than disobeying him in what is easy for you. He (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden you from giving out your land for a third or a quarter of the produce: "Rather, let him cultivate it himself or have his brother cultivate it." They said: Then it will lie barren. He said: "Let it lie barren."
