Mas'ud bin Khalid relates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed with Khalid at al-Ji'ranah; Khalid slaughtered an animal for him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) spent the day and the evening with Khalid. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged (the people) to perform Umrah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Muhrish went down to the valley until they reached a place called Ashqab, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Muhrish, the water of this place up to 'al-Kurr' belongs to Khalid, and what remains of the valley is yours, O Muhrish." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dug into the 'Kurr' with his hand, and water gushed out of it, and he drank from it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged (the people) to perform Umrah and sent Khalid to one of his companions named Muhrish bin Abdullah. At that time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was fearful of entering Makkah, so he (Muhrish) took him along a route that kept him away from those who posed a danger, a route he knew well, until he completed his rite (Umrah). The two of them (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Muhrish) returned to Khalid in the morning, and Muhrish released him from ihram — that is, he shaved his head.
